Intro to eBooks Guide

What is an eBook?

An eBook (electronic book) is a book that is "composed in or converted to digital format for display on a computer screen or handheld device" (Merriam-Webster, 2011).

The eBook collections in this guide fall under two major categories:

  1. eBooks that can be downloaded for free to eBook readers.

  2. eBooks that can be read online for free, but cannot be downloaded to an eBook reader unless they are purchased by the user.

Many of the sites we've listed also have partial access to titles in their collections and the option to search full-text.
